The Telford Buddhist Priory was established in 2000, follows the Serene Reflection tradition of Buddhism (Sōtō Zen) and is a registered Charity. The Priory functions within a larger organization called The Order of Buddhist Contemplatives.
A priest of the Order is in residence, offering teaching and guidance to those drawn to this way of practice.
The Priory exists to guide anyone who wishes to make Sōtō Zen Buddhist practice a central part of their life.
– At the heart of meditation is an invitation to discover the truth directly for yourself
– Everyone is welcome, whether completely new to meditation or with prior experience
Practice at the Priory includes:
– Seated meditation (zazen)
– Meditation in daily life
– The cultivation of active compassion
– Following the Buddhist moral and ethical precepts
A group meets regularly, and newcomers are very welcome to attend and learn how to practise within this tradition. There is an emphasis on meditation, together with guidance on how to bring the mind of meditation into the activities of everyday life.
